MTC Orec Sdn Bhd (MTCO) is proud to be a part of JPG Greenergy Ventures Sdn Bhd (JPGGEV), a subsidiary of Johor Plantations Group Bhd, which has recently been awarded BioNexus status by the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corp under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). Johor Plantations holds a 55% stake in JPG Greenergy Ventures, with MTCO owning the remaining 45%.
JPG Greenergy Ventures is at the forefront of transforming palm oil mill effluent (POME) into valuable biomethane, showcasing its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The BioNexus status empowers companies like JPG Greenergy Ventures to accelerate growth in the biotechnology sector through various benefits, including fiscal incentives, funding, investment facilitation, and advisory services.
MOSTI minister Chang Lih Kang recently visited Johor Plantations’ Sedenak oil palm estate and the Sedenak Biomethane plant in Johor, observing the innovative conversion of palm oil production waste into biomethane.
This initiative sets a new standard for the sustainable management of palm oil byproducts in the renewable energy sector. In support of this initiative, Johor Plantations has secured a 15-year gas purchase agreement with Gas Malaysia Green Ventures Sdn Bhd. This agreement allows the injection of purified biomethane gas into the Natural Gas Distribution System (NGDS) with an annual commitment of 250,000 million British thermal units (MMBtu). This project is expected to avoid approximately 97,889 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
