6th June 2024, SINGAPORE – MTC Orec Sdn Bhd (MTCO), one of the leading players in the renewable energy sector, showcased its pioneering bioenergy solutions at the inaugural Clean Economy Investor Forum (CEIF), held in conjunction with the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial Meeting. The forum, which brought together top investors, project proponents, entrepreneurs, and government officials, aimed to mobilize financing for clean energy and climate-friendly infrastructure projects across the region.
MTCO (led by Dr Norshah & Raja Salleh), participated actively in the forum, presenting a portfolio of innovative projects aimed at addressing the global greenhouse gas crisis. Other Malaysian investors, such as Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Petronas, Gentari, NanoMalaysia Bhd (Gigafactory), Faradays Energy Sdn Bhd, and Limpahan Engineering Sdn Bhd were also present.
MTCO's presentation focused on leveraging bioenergy as a sustainable solution to bridge the gap between waste producers and energy consumers. The company outlined its bioenergy model, which converts diverse organic waste sources, including palm oil waste, landfill waste, agricultural residues, and food waste, into valuable biofuels such as Biomethane, Bio-LNG, Biomethanol, Bio-ammonia, and Biohydrogen.
"Our bioenergy solutions offer a one-stop solution for waste management and renewable energy production," stated by Dr Norshah from MTCO. "By converting organic waste into high-value biofuels, we not only address environmental concerns but also create economic opportunities."
The presentation highlighted Malaysia's potential in bioenergy production, with over 26 million MMBTU of potential energy and the avoidance of over 10 million metric tons of CO2 emissions. MTC Orec outlined its ambitious plans to establish biomethane plants across Malaysia, with a phased approach targeting 30 plants in the initial phase, followed by Bio-LNG and Biomethanol production in subsequent phases.
The company's participation in the CEIF aligns with Malaysia's broader commitment to the IPEF agreements, particularly the Clean Economy agreement, which aims to accelerate the deployment of clean energy technology and promote sustainable transport. Malaysia also ratified the IPEF agreement Relating to Supply Chain Resilience, signalling its readiness to strengthen supply chain resilience in the Indo-Pacific region.
MTCO had the opportunity to personally discuss its thoughts and ideas on Malaysia's future in the green energy sector with Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz and Bioeconomy Corporation. Following the session, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, the Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, remarked, "We see great synergies between the IPEF agreements and Malaysia's current policies, including the National Semiconductor Strategy and the National Energy Transition Roadmap. The IPEF provides an opportunity for holistic collaboration to benefit all partner countries."
As Malaysia continues to champion sustainable development initiatives, MTCO's innovative bioenergy solutions promise to play a pivotal role in achieving environmental sustainability and economic growth in the region.
